We had a productive follow-up meeting about our neighborhood traffic concerns on May 6th at the Benjamin Branch Library! Thanks to the 10 neighbors who came out to participate.
At the request of David Ortega from the Greensboro Department of Transportation (GDOT), we gathered to discuss the potential solutions presented back in March and try to find some common ground.
After a quick review of our last meeting, we focused on the proposed options. Here’s what the group felt were the top priorities:
- Reduce Traffic Volume: Look into diverting traffic at the entrance to the neighborhood (David Caldwell & Battleground).
- Slow/Deter Traffic: Explore ways to calm traffic on David Caldwell Dr, possibly by narrowing the road visually with center/edge lines, or using features like bulb-outs, chicanes, or mini-roundabouts.
- Improve Pedestrian Safety: Create sidewalks to give walkers a safe space away from traffic.
Some folks also felt strongly about including increased law enforcement as a solution. While we discussed that this might be outside GDOT’s direct control, it was suggested that neighbors passionate about this reach out to the Greensboro Police Department (GPD) to explore possibilities.
Thank you to Chris Satchell for compiling a helpful document with more details and examples. (See the Document below)
